In medieval times the season of Christmas was a much more protracted affair than it is today. After the initial Christmas Day festivities there was a period of 12 Days when gifts were given to others and celebrations were held. This lasted from December 26th until 6th January. The song ‘On the First Day of Christmas, my true love gave to me…’ relates back to this. Shakespeare wrote ’12th Night’ referring to the last day of the festive period, and even today some people only take down their decorations on the 6th of January.
This year celebrate Christmas by giving a ‘Twelve Days’ Gift Box. It is designed to be given for Christmas Day, and each drawer opened over the next 12 Days (if the recipient can wait that long).
Alternatively use it as a late Advent Calendar counting down to Christmas from December 13th!!
